Professor Masaki Kashiwara served as an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, Nagoya University, from 1974 to 1977. He is widely recognized as a leading figure in Japanese mathematics for his numerous outstanding research achievements in a wide range of modern mathematics, including algebraic analysis and representation theory. In 2018, he became the first Japanese award winner of the Chern Medal. As a member of the Nagoya University community, I would like to sincerely congratulate Professor Kashiwara on his Abel Prize.
