Perspectives in Mathematical Sciences
This portion of the course is taught in five lectures from October 4
through November 1. The subject is scissor's congruence for polyhedra
in three dimensional euclidean space and Hilbert's third problem. Here
is a more detailed syllabus.
Text: Johan L. Dupont, Scissors congruences, group homology
and characteristic classes, Nankai Tracts in Mathematics,
vol. 1, World Scientific 2001.
Time and place: Tuesday 2:45-4:15 in Science Building 1, room 109.
Lecture notes: The Lecture Notes are
updated each week. Here is a current list of content:
- Lecture 1: Hilbert's third problem.
- Lecture 2: The Dehn invariant.
- Lecture 3: The scissor's congruence group.
- Lecture 4: The group P(R3).
- Lecture 5: Group homology.
