I am using lablgtk2 on Snow Leopard too, and your program correctly creates a window for me. However, there is a known bug (a gtk+ bug on Mac OS X) where a gtk+ application is placed at the bottom of the stack of windows, instead of at the top as it should be. Perhaps this is what confuses you. Closing the window does not exit the program and then it looks like an infinite loop, too, but I think that's normal.
