If you need additional gtk+/gnome libraries, an alternative is to use MacPorts to install the quartz variant of gtk+. I usually go back to the InkScape help page for Mac OS X compilation when I forget how to do it: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/CompilingMacOsX It contains a lot of useful information.
