The good news is that it is possible, and in fact completely straightforward. You just need to install the package that you can find at http://www.gtk-osx.org, then set PKG_CONFIG_PATH like this ... export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=\ /Library/Frameworks/Cairo.framework/Resources/dev/lib/pkgconfig:\ /Library/Frameworks/GLib.framework/Resources/dev/lib/pkgconfig:\ /Library/Frameworks/Gtk.framework/Resources/dev/lib/pkgconfig ... and away you go!
